I finally found a widescreen version of Tom Tykwer's triptych Lola rennt (1998) and watched it ohne Untertitel, proving yet again that my German isn't anywhere near good enough to comprehend fast-paced dialogue in real time. I did manage to re-appreciate the groundhogdayesque thriller, which I last watched eight or so years ago with my parents — using my iBook as a DVD player, hooked up to their TV. It was a time when I was trying to re-imagine my fast-fading connections to them, which had turned into a sort-of employer/employee relationship owing to their particular incapacities and a soft misunderstanding of how best to attend to their needs. Alas, at some point my mother told me not to bother bringing any movies over. It was the beginning of the end.
