Gregory Hoblit's excellent Fracture (2007) has one fleeting chess scene: The board (shown) matches ten white pieces against ten black pieces. A closer examination reveals the position:


1rr3k1/5ppp/pp2pn2/4N3/8/1P4P1/P2RPPKP/3R4


Just a random set-up, I guessed, when I looked at it. Still, I searched my database for the position. Incredibly, I found a match played in Istanbul in 2000 between Yasser Seirawan (white) and Bazar Hatanbaatar (black) which produces that position just prior to white's twenty-second move. Googling

it, one finds that it is the last puzzle on this webpage.


There are six captured white pieces on the table beside the board. Where are the six captured black pieces?
