Ice Jam

Breaking up is hard to do

My island in the Humber got walloped this week: The river was still frozen over on Tuesday but the combination of rain and temperature broke up the ice by Wednesday. The small channel on our side of the island ended up totally clogged with hefty ice chunks. By Thursday already, most of that ice had been washed downstream. The momentum of Thursday's water flow can be better appreciated by this photograph of it thundering over the weir.
